A lot of effort is put into our decision to book accommodation no matter how long the duration of our stay. The time spent trawling through trip advisor reviews has once again proven to be a great investment of our time leading us to choose this particular home stay. Our only disappointment with Watea Boutique was that our itinerary didn't allow us to stay longer than two nights. Iris is the perfect host with the most beautiful home.
They spent a great deal of time and effort helping us plan our itinerary for the day in which we loaned Watea's bikes to cycle around the vineyards in the area. He even came to pick us up after a long day of cycling and we cannot begin to explain how much our backsides appreciated this gesture of kindness! A dip in the hot tub when we got home from dinner that evening was also welcomed to sooth our aching muscles.
Breakfast both mornings were superb, the pancakes with spiced apple being our favourite breakfast during our time in NZ! There were also lots of other options which included homemade bread, jams and muesli made by Iris.
We really we're disappointed when it was time to pack up and leave. Do yourselves a favour and ensure you build an itinerary that allows a stay in Watea Boutique. Thank you Iris from your adopted welsh kids!
My Fiancee and I stayed at Watea Boutique B&B for a weekend this summer...and it was stunning. Our host Iris went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable (serving home made shortbread biscuits with our tea). She also went out of their way to cater to my dietary needs - making delicious vegetarian breakfasts.
Iris is very knowledgeable about the Hawkes Bay region which was a great help to us and the accommodation itself was top-notch with all the modern comforts you could want from a hotel. If you plan on going to the Hawkes Bay stay at Watea...this little B&B does New Zealand proud!
Fantastic place. I can only echo the thoughts of the other people on this page - lovely home with great decor and furnishings, a hot tub with full satellite TV and hifi sound (epic) and friendly hosts. We had an awesome time with Iris. The breakfasts were tasty and advice about wineries both engaging and informative. Totally recommended.
I have never written a review on Tripadvisor but I just HAD to open an account just to let you all know good my stay was. I stayed there with my girlfriend for 2 nights. Our host, Iris was really friendly and our needs were totally taken care of. We also learnt that she used to travel really often over our long conversations and definitely knows the important aspects of having an excellent BnB.
Home cooked breakfast was really delicious. The rooms were clean, modern, and all amenities are provided for. You could literally move in with just your suitcase. Oh! The beds are really comfortable to sleep on. I had a really good rest with those fluffy pillows and blankets. Its like living in a 5 star hotel. A pity we didn't utilize the pool as we were too afraid to step out into the cold even though it was heated. Will definitely be back during summer. If there's a place in hawkes bay... this is it. Excellent location close to town with good hosts... There’s nothing more you could ask for.
Kirsty from Sydney said "We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay in this gorgeous new B&B. Our host Iris was extremely hospitable, the amenities are synonymous with those in a 5 star hotel and the beds are sumptuous. We will definitely return".
Diana said "We recently spent a relaxing night at Iris's stunning new home stay. After a long drive from Auckland it was sheer luxury to relax with nibbles and a glass of wine around the pool in the late afternoon sun. The bed was feather soft the linen fine the towels fluffy. Iris was a wonderful host and could not do enough to make our stay a top class experience... had we had more time we could have visited the wineries, played golf, used the bikes or even worked out on the gym equipment. As it was we left after an great night's sleep and an excellent breakfast will certainly return."
Shirley from Whitianga said, "Was lucky enough to spend 3 nights at beautiful Watea Band B. Iris is a wonderful host and the breakfasts were very delicious and satisfying. Had the weather been a little kinder to us, we would have loved watching movies while dipping in the spa. Never mind, we will definitely be back! Thanks Iris."
Chris E said "We stayed at Watea for three nights with our host Iris. While she was new to the B&B world and Watea has just opened the hospitality was outstanding. Iris has traveled extensively and seem to know just what travelers need in accommodation. The bed was very comfortable and the en-suite was luxurious. Beautiful bed linen and delicious breakfasts made this a must return to location. The pool, spa and outdoor entertainment all provided in an enclosed courtyard make you feel like you have landed in a tropical resort. Centrally located between Hastings and Napier makes this a place to stay for most events. We will definitiely return to Watea."
Chris M from Wellington says "Headed to hawkes bay and stayed at the beautiful watea bed and breakfast. Very nice with a great room and wonderful hospitality, not to mention the terrific breakfast. Loved the pool and spa with tv also. Highly recommended!."
Daniel from Washington USA said "This is a lovely place and nicer than most hotels I've stayed in. The location is ideal, assuming you have a car. It's close to town and wineries. I didn't use the lap pool, though was tempted, but we enjoyed sitting in the hot tub where you could look straight ahead to watch a large screen TV, or look up to see the stars. It's in a quiet neighborhood. The host, Iris, is very warm and provided helpful advice on things to see and do in the Napier area, as well as for Wellington where she used to live, and where we were heading to next. Breakfast was good and hardy. We spent two nights, and after the first, my wife (whose comments are below in Japanese) was inspired to say she would like to run a B&B after I retire! アイリスさんとユーリンさんとっても親切で特にユーリンさんはワイン好きで色々な情報を知っています。部屋もとっても綺麗でゆったりとしていています。プールも有り場所もハイウエイからも近く便利です。とってもお勧めな場所です。".
From Gordon Wellington. "From arrival to the end of our three night stay we felt nothing but spoilt by our wonderful host Iris. She provided wonderful home cooked breakfasts & the added bonus of cooling down in the pool after our jaunts around the stunning Hawkes Bay region, was just fantastic. The bedroom & ensuite facilities were amazing. We will certainly be back for more fine hospitality! We wish Iris all the best for her new venture
Stefan from Vienna Austria" Great Bed and Breakfast! Really nice hosts provided a beautifully furnished and exceptionally neat and tidy room for us. We could enjoy our breakfast together with the gracious and considerate hosts. Additionally, they have a great swimming pool, which you can actually use for swimming as it is 20 m long (and not just for splashing around) and a spa with a TV. Unfortunately we stayed only one night, we really enjoyed it there!"
